Koh Jum Beach Villas: The Best Places to Stay at Koh Jum

by BackPackBOB 22 January 2023
FacebookTweetPinPrint

Koh Jum is easily my favorite island in Thailand. It’s the beach villas and chilled out accommodations that make it one of the best islands to visit. In life, it’s essential to stop and reflect from time-to-time, and sitting in a hammock, at a Koh Jum beach villa, overlooking the sea; it’s the perfect place, enabling you to really switch off and disconnect for a while.

I found this map showing the resort location on Koh Jum. Although it’s become a bit outdated and some resorts are missing. However the hotels mentioned in this post (Koh Jum Beach Villas and Jungle Hill Resort) can be seen near Ao Si Beach and Golden Pearl Beach.

Where To Stay in Koh Jum

There are two clear winners when it comes to choosing a place to stay on Koh Jum. Pick either the Koh Jum Beach Villas or The Jungle Hill Beach Bungalows, depending on your budget.

If your budget allows it, I recommend staying at the Koh Jum Beach Bungalows. If your budget is a little tighter then the Jungle Hill Resort offers similar hospitality at a lower price.

What’s The Accommodation on Koh Jum Like

The beach villas and bungalows found on Koh Jum are the perfect place to unwind. There are few places left in Thailand where you can still rent accommodation which is actually on the beach. There used to be a ton of beach villas cheaply available throughout Thailand during the 80’s, but as popularity for the islands grew. The smaller bungalows were mostly pushed out in favor of resorts. Somehow Koh Jum kept its authentic state.

These are the best places to stay on Koh Jum. There is a mix of beach villas and bungalows suitable for all price ranges. Plus a few budget accommodation options too.

Luxury Koh Jum Beach Villas

Photo of Baan Si Daeng Beach Villa (ā€˜The Red House’ when translated into English) at Koh Jum Beach Villas a Member of Secret Retreats. The one bedroom villa has a private swimming pool and is located on the beach facing Phi Phi Island. The Villa costs anywhere from 12,000 to 17,000 Thai Baht a night. The price fluctuates depending on the season.

This resort is literally called ā€˜Koh Jum Beach Villas’ or the full name is ā€˜Koh Jum Beach Villas a Member of Secret Retreatsā€˜.

It’s the ultimate chill-out destination and perfect for families and couples looking to get off the beaten track.

If money is not an issue then the Koh Jum Beach Villas is the number one place to stay on Koh Jum. But you’ll want to book ahead of time because these villas sell out often months in advance. Booking at least 6 weeks in advance gets you a lower price and Agoda usually has the best rates.

Koh Jum Beach Villas are the only luxury accommodation option on Koh Jum island. The resort has 19 individual private villas all with unique characteristics. No villa at the resort is the same as another. The villas range from one bedroom to five bedroom properties. Some are located on the beach front while others are set further back in the luscious jungle. All of the Koh Jum Beach Villas have modest privacy from another.

Half of the Koh Jum Beach Villas have private swimming pools attached, and all the Koh Jum Beach Villas have access to the resorts main pool and all have individual private gardens and terraces.

If you are staying for a week in Koh Jum Beach Villas the current promotion means you’ll only pay for 6 nights.

Mid-Range Koh Jum Beach Villas

Jungle Hill Beach Bungalows

beeach villa jungle hill at koh jum
Jungle Hill Resort on Koh Jum

Jungle Hill Bungalows are my favorite place to stay, out of anywhere I’ve ever travelled to. Seriously, I cannot recommend this Koh Jum beach villa enough. Don’t expect too much from the rooms. There is no aircon, no TV, no kettle. The beds are a bit hard and the shower is luke-warm. But the thing that makes this hotel unique is the location.

The beach villas are old-school styled. Wooden huts right on the sea-front. Each hut has its own porch, large enough for two. And the huts have plenty of privacy. Hammocks are strung out on the porch that are so comforting they make you never want to leave. If I’m being honest I fell asleep in the hammock on the second night. The sound of the waves was so peaceful and waking up with the sunrise was bliss.

The Jungle Hill beach villas are not a cheap place to stay on Koh Jum, but the resort is still affordable. Prices for the Superior Bungalow with Sea View range between 900 to 1500 Baht depending on the season. But the hillside bungalows here can be rented for as little as 400 Baht, (check the current price here).

Jungle Hill really is the perfect place to stay in Koh Jum for anyone looking for mid range accommodation in a great location.

It’s a little cheaper than the ā€˜Koh Jum Beach Villas a Member of Secret Retreats’, but it’s the location that makes this resort unique.

Tip: If you decide to stay at Jungle Hill on Koh Jum, make sure to choose the bungalow with a seaview. This is the more expensive of the two room types, but you won’t regret it. The other bungalows are set on the backside of the hill and like I said, it’s the beach front location that makes this place great.

Koh Jum Hostel

where to stay on Koh Jum

This is the only hostel available on Koh Jum but the location is a little far from the pier. You’ll definitely need a scooter rental if you stay here. The rooms are clean and modern and the dormitory sleeps 10 guests. You can book a bed in the mixed dorm here for about 300 Baht a night. The hostel is a great place to stay for solo travelers looking to meet like minded others.

Mr. Boy Guesthouse

Ah Mr.Boy, a legend on Koh Jum Island. Mr.Boy’s guesthouse is small, with only three rooms. The guesthouse combines with a cafĆ© built on a wooden pier, so you’ll have a view of the ocean from the window. This is the cheapest place on Koh Jum, if you don’t want to splash out on a private villa or a beach bungalow, but still want a private room. A room at Mr.Boy’s costs about 1,000 Baht a night. And even if you don’t stay here; I definitely recommend going to visit the cafĆ©. You can even fish for squid off the pier.

Mr.Boy has minimal online presence so to book you’ll have to head to his cafĆ© and book when you arrive on the island, or call on message using +66 61 229 3355.

BackPackBOB

Hi I’m Robb. But you can call me Backpack Bob. Welcome to my site. I started this travel blog in March 2020. Literally the worst time to be travelling. Haha. But the pandemic didn’t stop me. I managed to visit 5 countries during lockdowns, (sorry, not sorry), and I kept on writing. I’ve done a lot in my 27 years on this earth. My life has been a crazy ride. People often tell me I should write a book about it. I’m banned from two countries. I’ve worked in four continents. I started my own business in Thailand at 21. And I left on my first international solo adventure at 19, with less than $100. I’ll share the reality about travel and living overseas, without the drama. The highs, the lows and why and travel is so import, incredible and unique in a world after the coronavirus. I hope that I can inspire others to travel with an open mind and live your life to its full potential. Peace and Love. āœŒļø

I’ve done a lot in my 27 years on this earth. My life has been a crazy ride. People often tell me I should write a book about it. I've met some incredible people. I’m banned from two countries.
