Where Can Americans Travel Now

The viral outbreak has completely rewritten the rules of global and international travel as we knew it. It’s a confusing time to travel and information about who can travel, and where, is constantly changing. To put it bluntly; it’s a s**t-show.

The most common perception amongst most citizens of the United States is that international travel is completely off-limits. And… even if it was possible. Then don’t do it, because you, know… Pandemic, just stay at home instead. Blah, Blah, Blah.

Well, while some people desperately want that to be true, it’s not.

where can americans travel to can americans travel internationally countries americans can travel to now

We can’t all stay at home forever, some people aren’t ready to leave their homes and that’s fine. You, do you. But for those who are ready to travel once again, there are countries on this planet, ready to welcome tourists from the United States, where Americans can travel to.

So, if you’ve been told that international travel is prohibited, that might sound believable. But it isn’t the truth.

Doing a little research, (and also travelling internationally myself), uncovers that there is, in fact, over 30 countries, and counting, which have now opened up to united states citizens.

Some countries have additional entry requirements in place, some don’t. Some countries you’ll need to quarantine, others you’ll need to arrive with a negative coronavirus test, some you’ll need a visa in advance. But travel to all the countries mentioned in the post is possible.

So, which countries can Americas travel to now, and how? Which airlines are flying internationally from the US and what entry requirements are in place… let’s take a look.

  • Which Countries Can Americans Travel To

Where Can Americans Travel Right Now Map

Compared to life before COVID-19, there are far fewer countries where Americans can travel to at the moment, but there are still plenty of choices for Americans to travel overseas, and take a vacation outside of the states.

This map gives you a visual representation of where Americans can travel right now, hopefully disproving the myth that international travel is impossible.

Some of the countries shown on the map as open include, Indonesia, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Other popular vacation destinations include The Bahamas, The Maldives, Puerto Rico and Panama.

Can Americans Travel Internationally During The Coronavirus Pandemic

Although some people would, understandably, prefer not to, Americans can travel internationally during the pandemic if they choose to. Americans are free to leave the country at their leisure and the United States government has revoked the advice to avoid all travel.

Upon your return to the US, and depending on the state you arrive to, a 14-day quarantine could be mandated. Some states, however, have no quarantine requirements.

There are a number of reasons that Americans might need to travel internationally, for business, investment, work, to be with family or even for general tourism.

In this post, I’ll be looking specifically at where Americans can travel to, for tourism purposes, without the need to quarantine on arrival.

Can US Citizens Fly Internationally

International flights to and from the United States have been drastically reduced since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Although, it makes sense because so have passenger numbers.

But there are no restrictions in place which would prevent any United States citizens from flying internationally. Flight schedules and routes are rapidly increasing as demand to travel is growing once again, with more people starting to get back to their normal lives.

Countries That Have Reopened For American Tourists

There are now over thirty countries open for Americans to travel to for tourism, here is the full list of countries where Americans can travel.

Here is the full list, but keep on reading, where I will go into more detail about the entry requirements for each of these countries.

Countries Americans Can Travel To Without A Two Week Quarantine

All the countries in this post, are open to travellers from the United States now, and do NOT have a requirement to quarantine on arrival.

Most countries will require a negative coronavirus test to be taken before arrival, and entry requirements for some other countries are a little looser than others.

The latest and exact entry requirements for each country are listed below. And I will also link, where possible to the official source of the information.

How To Check If A Country Is Accepting American Tourists

This post contains a full list of every country which Americans can travel to now. But if you’re curios about travelling to another country, how can you check if they are open to Americans?

Here’s how:

Tourism Boards are a great place to start, run a search for the tourism board of the country you want to visit and check if there is any information published about travel restrictions.

Twitter; many countries are keeping up with digital age and their Tourism Ministries or Governments share the latest updates on their twitter accounts.

Embassies, the United States has 307 embassies around the world. While embassies are notoriously bad at providing information one-to-one, (and they have no obligation to do so). You will find some pretty useful information online. Start by checking the website of the United States embassy in the country you want to travel to.

Where Can Americans Travel To In North-America And The Caribbean

If you’re looking for countries open to American tourists, you might not need to look far. There are plenty of island nations open to Americans, without needing to leave the continent. In fact, you could even take a vacation to Hawaii, (which is now open to Americans without quarantine), where technically you won’t have even left the United States!

Most Caribbean countries have reopened their borders to travellers from the United States, with understanding and simply entry requirements. Americans are permitted to travel to most Caribbean nations with a negative coronavirus PCR test and after filling out an online health declaration form. Keep on reading to find the entry requirements for each of theses countries in North America and the Caribbean, that have already opened their borders to travellers and tourists from the USA.

Can Americans Travel To Canada Right Now

Sharing a border with the USA it is no surprise that over 13 million Americans enter Canada each year for tourism-related purposes. Unfortunately, the United States/Canada border remains closed to tourists and non-essential travel. Including travel by both road and by air.

Americans can, however, travel to Canada for ‘essential’ reasons, with a 14-day self-quarantine order. Essential reasons include; business, foreign workers, health-care workers and those travelling directly into Alaska.

Can Americans Travel To Hawaii Right Now

Hawaii technically isn’t a country, so Americans can visit without leaving the states. But I wanted to include it on this list of countries which are open to Americans because even though at a government level Hawaii is the USA, in reality, the two places are a world apart.

Antigua and Barbuda, two stunning islands in the Caribbean, have officially re-opened to tourists from June 1st this year, making it a country which Americans can visit now.

American Airlines have resumed flights to Antigua, and as is the case with most countries, you’ll need to arrive with a negative coronavirus test in hand, issued by a medical professional in order to avoid a mandated quarantine. A PCR test can be used to enter Antigua and Barbuda for up to seven days, and children under 12 are exempt.

There are still some heavy coronavirus restrictions in place on the islands, including an overnight curfew, that might cause you to choose another vacation destination.

The Bahamas

Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama. Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go. 🎵

The Bahamas, an archipelago with more than 700 islands in the Caribbean has finally opened to American travellers. After a rocky start, closing borders again shortly after reopening for the first time. An official announcement has been made and Americans can now, again, travel to the Bahamas with hotels and beaches being given the green light to open up.

To travel to the Bahamas now, you’ll need to have a coronavirus test taken in advance, which will remain valid for 5 days. And on your 5th day in the Bahamas, a second (rapid) coronavirus test will need to be taken.

Americans visiting The Bahamas will also need to apply for a Travel Health Visa, you can make an application online, where the process costs $60 USD and takes three working days.

Create an account and apply for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa here. Get the latest official information on The Bahamas re-opening here.

Barbados

Barbados, a stunning island nation in North America, is now open to travellers from the United States. Officially reopening on July the 12th, tourists are now being welcomed back.

Both JetBlue and American Airlines have resumed flight operations from the US.

Visitors arriving from high-risk countries need to have a negative coronavirus test to show on arrival, and unsurprisingly the United States is considered a high-risk country.

Travel Off Path have smashed together a pretty decent guide, giving the current travel requirements to enter Barbados. And you can check the official and latest information given by the Barbados Tourism Board here.

Bermuda

can americans travel to bermuda now covid where can americans travel now coronavirus

Another beautiful nation in the Caribbean, is open for Americans to travel to, and has been since July the 17th. Barbados is a tropic heaven in the Caribbean, and an island which has handled the spread of coronavirus remarkably well. With less than 250 cases recorded since the start of the pandemic, and deaths yet to reach double digits, you should feel safe when travelling to Bermuda.

Bermuda is open & welcoming travellers to enjoy the island safely and responsibly.

Effective July 17, @BdaGovernment updated arrival protocols and testing for air travellers. Learn more about recent updates here: https://t.co/IJMC4VOgq4. pic.twitter.com/zbHrJwX2aF

— Bermuda (@Bermuda) July 17, 2020

Bermuda has a pretty unique entry requirement, all tourists need to pack their own thermometer and will be required to take their own temperatures! Then report the information through an online portal.

You’ll also need to have a PRC test, showing a negative result taken a maximum of three days before arriving. And mandatory rapid testing will be carried out on the 4th, 8th and 14th day of any stay.

The rapid testing costs $75 USD for all three tests and is paid at the travellers expense.

Travellers will also need to complete an online travel authorization form one to three days before arriving in Bermuda.

Fill out the form and request travel authorization through the official website. And don’t forget to check the latest coronavirus travel requirements on the Bermuda Government website.

If you’re looking for flights to Bermuda from the States; check Delta from Atlanta, and JetBlue from Boston or New York.

Jamaica

which contries can americans travel to coronavirus where can americans travel now is jamaica open to american turists

Jamaica, the birthplace of the reggae legend, Bob Marley. Famous for the worlds fastest sprinters, the country’s chilled and relaxed attitude, beautiful beaches, mouth watering cuisine, and of corse Marijuana. Easily one of the of my favirote contries, which is now open to American travellers.

Like so many of it’s Caribbean neighbours, Jamaica has followed suit and opened their borders for international travellers. But while Americans can travel to Jamaica now, without quarantine f you want to visit from the United States, you’ll need to jump through a few hoops first.

You’ll need a negative coronavirus (PCR) test, which needs to have been taken a maximum of ten days before arriving. You’ll also need to have travel authorization granted by the Jamaican government. Travel Authorization can be requested online.

Puerto Rico

Where can U.S citizens travel to now? Well, Puerto Rico is a popular vacation destination for Americans, and one which has re-opened to tourism.

The tropical island of Puerto Rico, officially reopened to all international and United States travellers in July 2020.

As is the case with other Caribbean islands that have opened to American tourists, if you want to visit, you’ll need to have a (negative) coronavirus, PCR test taken before you travel. Puerto Rico will accept a result for up three days from the test date.

You’ll also need to complete an online travel declaration form before arriving. And here, you can check the latest restrictions and requirements given by the government of Puerto Rico.

You should also keep in mind, that there are still some limitations in place due to the coronavirus. In Puerto Rico there is an overnight curfew until further notice. From the hours of 10:00 pm to 5:00 am, you will need to stay inside in your hotel or accommodation.

Read the latest and official Puerto Rico travel guidelines.

St. Barths

Although the are no flights operating from the United States at the Moment, Americans can travel to St. Barths.

In an interview with the Caribbean Journal, Bruno Magras, president of the island’s territorial council confirmed the following information:

The Caribbean’s most glamorous destination is reopening for tourism, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The French Caribbean island of St Barth is reopening for travel and tourism on June 22, according to Bruno Magras, president of the island’s territorial council.

“Whether you are visiting an island friend or local resident, returning to spend time in your vacation home or coming back to spend some vacation time on the island, St Barth is pleased to welcome you back,” Magras said.

Magras said life on the island has “returned to normal.”

“Island beaches are open without restriction, restaurants and boutiques are operating as usual, houses of worship are open and holding services and nautical services as well as the other services to which you are accustomed are being provided as usual,” he said.

So things are back to usual on the island of St. Barths, but again, to avoid a 14-day quarantine. You must arrive with a negative coronavirus test taken no more than 72 days before arrival.

Get up to date information about coronavirus cases in St. Barths (reliable, but not official information).

St. Kitts and Nevis

St. Kitts and Nevis have officially open their borders on October the 31st. But while it is somewhere that Americans can travel to, the amount of coronavirus restrictions in place would put me off from traveling there at the moment.

First of all, there are only seven hotels which American tourists are allowed to stay in. And to make things even more restrictive, for the first 7 days you will not be allowed to leave the hotel grounds. On the 7th day, a rapid coronavirus test will be taken at your own cost, and if the result is negative you will be allowed to partake in tours operated by the hotel. It is not until the 14th day that a PCR test will be given (at your expense), and if that is returned negative, you’ll then be free to roam the islands.

Those hotels open to American tourists are:

  1. Four Seasons
  2. Koi Resort, by Curio, Hilton
  3. Marriott Vacation Beach Club
  4. Paradise Beach
  5. Park Hyatt
  6. Royal St. Kitts Hotel
  7. St. Kitts Marriott Resort

If you did decide, that over all the island countries which are open to American tourists, in the Caribbean. That St. Kitts and Nevis is the place you want to visit for a vacation. Then you will also need to have Travel Authorization pre-approved. Have a coronavirus test taken before you travel and download and install the “SKN COVID-19 contact tracing” mobile app, which you’ll be required to use for 14-days.

Here are some useful links with the official information from the St. Kitts and Nevis tourism boards and governments.

Where Can Americans Travel To In South-America

South America is a beautiful place to take a vacation, there so many unique countries in South America, and many of these countries have opened up their borders to tourists from the United States.

With such close proximity to the United States, South America is one of the most popular destinations for US tourists. One of the more popular vacation countries for Americans is Costa Rica, which saw over one million tourist arrivals from the US in 2018, the country is now open to American tourists again.

Other countries in South America that tourists can travel to include; Panama, Ecuador, Brazil, Costa Rica and Columbia along with island nations including Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas.

Lets have a look at the full list of countries in South America that tourists can now visit from the United States.

Can Americans Travel To Mexico Right Now

can americans travel to mexico is mexico open to americans now where can americans travel now

Mexico is the most visited country by Americans. With over 30 million Americans visiting Mexico on average, every year. So you might be pleased to find out that Mexico is a country which Americans can visit now. In fact it’s one of the few places which never really closed their border with the United States.

There are no restrictions on air travel into Mexico, no quarantine requirements and no requirement to have a coronavirus test taken. If I’m being honest, while it can be a hassle, I’d feel much safer if passengers were required to have a negative test taken before travelling.

Popular resorts in Mexico, including Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Vallatra, Tulum and Oaxaca have reopened their beaches, hotels, attractions and other businesses.

Technically, the Mexican / United States border is closed for tourists. The land border is open for ‘essential reasons’. Although speak with any American who has travelled to Mexico by land and you’ll hear the same story, that they were allowed to drive across the border into Mexico, no questions asked.

But if you wanted to play it safe, you’ll be guaranteed entry if you’re traveling in by air.

Read the latest information from the United States Embassy in Mexico.

Aruba

Aruba is once again open to United States tourists, with borders officially opening on July 10th.

You’ll need to have a coronavirus test taken no more than 72 hours before you arrive and your need to upload the certificate online as a part of the Embarkation and Disembarkation form.

Read the latest and official entry requirements published by the Aruba tourism Board.

You will also need to have mandatory Aruba Visitor’sTravel Insurance, a policy sold and backed by the Aruba government. You are required to buy this insurance policy even if you already have travel insurance with another insurer.

The cost for the mandated insurance is $30 USD for each traveller.

Brazil

can americans travel to brazil now is brazil open to united states tourists now covid which contries can americans go to now

Want to visit Brazil, then I’ve got good news for you. Brazil is a country which Americans can travel to now.

In a shock move, brazil has revoked all travel restrictions and is offering United States citizens visa-free travel for up to 90 days.

But in my opinion, you’d be nuts to go right now. Choose an isolated nation in the Caribbean for your vacation instead.

While Brazil is an incredible place, the country has the most cases of coronavirus in South America. Despite that, the ban on foreigners entering Brazil was totally lifted at the beginning of August, with no travel restrictions in place. Although Americans must enter by air, and are required to have travel and health insurance.

There is no mention of the coronavirus or any travel restrictions on from the Brazilian tourism board. Official information can be found from the United States Embassy in Brazil.

Colombia

Colombia is another country which Americans can travel to now, and another south American nation with some very loose entry requirements.

International flights from the United States have resumed, and all travel restrictions have been revoked. The is no quarantine requirement when travelling to Colombia from the United States, nor is there any requirement to have a coronavirus test taken at any point before travelling or after arriving.

You will, however, need to fill out an online travel form, before you arrive in Colombia. The form, called the ‘Check-Mig‘ can be filled out between 24 hours to 1 hour before departing from the United States.

Read the official COVID-19 travel information provided by the Colombian tourism board.

Read the international flights F.A.Q’s from the Colombian tourism board.

Costa Rica

costa rica is costa rica open for american tourists where can americans travel to now can americans travel to costa rica coronavirus

Many South-American countries have relaxed and loose travel restrictions for travel during the coronavirus pandemic. Costa Rica is no exception.

The country is open to American tourists from the United States, with no quarantine requirement and no need to provide a negative PCR test.

You will still need to fill out an online health pass before you arrive and you’ll need to have a return flight ticket and travel insurance covering at least $50,000 USD.

Read the latest and the official Costa Rica entry requirements here.

Ecuador

Ecuador has reopened for American tourists and both Quito and Guayaquil airports are have resumed normal operations and flights between the US from Miami, Houston and New York.

So long as you arrive in Ecuador by air and have a negative PRC test there is no quarantine requirement. Americans can use a PCR test to enter Ecuador for a maximum of ten days from the test date.

If you plan to visit the Galapagos Islands, then you’ll need to show a negative PCT test which was taken less than 96 hour before travel.

Guatemala

Guatemala is another stunning country in South America which has opened to Americans. Guatemala officially reopened the borders to tourists in late September and all coronavirus travel restrictions including curfews have been revoked. Mask wearing is still mandatory and enforced in public spaces.

You’ll need to have a negative PCR test, which was taken less than 72 hours before arriving in the country and you might be denied entry if you are showing any symptoms of coronavirus.

Direct flights are running from the United States to Guatemala from Dallas, Houston, New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami, and Washington.

Check the latest information about travel restrictions from the United States Embassy in Guatemala.

Honduras

Fill out an online health form, and arrive with a negative coronavirus test taken less than 72 hours before arrival. Those are the two travel requirements for Americans to enter Honduras. Honduran will accept either a PCR test or a rapid test for tourists arriving from the USA.

International airports in Honduras have reopened and direct flights are operating from the United States. Spirit are flying from Houston, and American Airlines are flying from Miami.

Honduras, while it is a beautiful country. Has a high number of coronavirus cases, so you should travel with caution.

Check the latest travel advisories from the United States Embassy in Honduras.

Panama

Panamas Ministry of Tourism has laid out some incredibly detailed and easy to digest information, making their coronavirus travel restrictions clear as day.

There is no requirement to quarantine or to have travel insurance, (although it is recommended).

You will need to show a negative coronavirus test taken within 48 hours, before being given permission to enter Panama, it can be either a PCR test or a rapid test taken before travel. Or, you can instead opt to have a rapid test taken on arrival which costs $50 and might be more convenient for some travellers.

Where Can Americans Travel To In Europe

Traveling from the United States to Europe is mostly off-limits for Americans. There are a few exceptions for example those traveling for business, or for work. But as far a generally tourism goes, there isn’t much hope on the horizon.

Although with most of Europe, (for some reason) entering a new lockdown, it’s probably not the best place to visiting on a vacation right now anyway.

That being said, there are a couple of lesser known countries in Europe that are open to American tourists, and bizarrely the United Kingdom is still open to tourists from America.

So here is the run-down of all the countries in Europe where Americans can travel to now.

Can Americans Travel To Europe Right Now

For tourism purposes, there are not many countries which Americans can visit now.

If you were dreaming of spending Christmas in Paris and new years in Prague, then you’re probably out of luck. But if you’ve always wanted to visit Serbia, because, let’s face it, who hasn’t. Then you’ll be fine.

Surprisingly the UK, including England and Scotland remained one of the few places that Americans can travel to, and never closed borders to Americans throughout the entirety of the pandemic.

Can Americans Travel To The UK Right Now

England

Scotland

Wales

Northern Ireland

England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland are open for Americans to travel.

contries americans can travel to now coronavirus travel restrictions can americans travel to the UK is scotland open for united states tourists

Despite the fact that British citizens cannot travel to the United States, surprisingly; Britain never closed any borders or airports, and has allowed American travellers to continue visiting, throughout the coronavirus pandemic. Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland are open for travel, with immigration business as usual.

It is one of the few countries in Europe which is still open for Americans to travel to, but there is a catch.

You’ll need to quarantine for two weeks when you arrive in the United Kingdom, self-quarantine.

When you arrive in the UK, you’ll be required to give the Immigration Officers the address of where you intend to self-quarantine. This can be the home of a friend or family member or an Airbnb or other rental property.

Public Health workers might visit your quarantine address to verify that you are indeed self-quarantining and if you are found to have broken the quarantine rule, you’ll be fined £1,000GBP (approx. $1,200USD).

An additional catch is that the United Kingdom is currently in a nationwide lockdown, which is expected to be broken down into regional lockdowns when the time is appropriate to do so. Foreigners will be subject to the same restrictions as the British public. And most entertainment businesses, bars and restaurants are closed, so even after the 14-day quarantine, you’ll only be allowed to roam for ‘essential reasons’.

During the latest lockdown in the United Kingdom, it is prohibited to cross the border between England and Scotland for non-essential reasons. Unfortunately and understandably, tourism is considered non-essential.

So while the United Kingdom is open to Americans for travel now, if you want to best experience, it might be better to postpone your trip.

There have also been some reports of American travellers entering mainland Europe, travelling via the United Kingdom. While it might be possible to do so in some cases, you would be breaking the law, (but do let me know if you manage it)!

The latest travel advice and guidance for travel to the United Kingdom can be found on the UK governments website.

Can Americans Travel To France Right Now

which contries can americans travel to can us citizens travel to france now is fance open for americans can united states citizens visit paris now is france open covid

Unfortunately along with the rest of the European Union, borders are still closed to American travellers and tourists. There has been no announcement made as to when France will reopen the borders to the United States, in fact, things are heading backwards rather than progressing, with the country recently entering into a new ‘lockdown’. Although while France is closed to Americans, some travellers have found a loop-hole to enter France.

The loop-hole had helped to reunite couples and families. It involves first travelling into the United Kingdom by air, then after a two-week quarantine, hopping on the Eurostar train and travelling into France from London.

It’s not clear if using this loop hole to travel to France is illegal, but it is defiantly a grey area.

Albania

Albania is open to Americans and all restrictions have been lifted and the country has some of the loosest travel restrictions in the world. There are none!

Asides from the standard temperature checks, there are no additional entry requirements to enter. Quarantine, coronavirus testing or filling out an online form is not a requirement for Americans wanting to travel to Albania.

On the 1st July, the Albanian government lifted all travel restriction for tourist-related visits.

There is, however, a restriction for bars, restaurants and entertainment venues to be closed after 10:00 pm.

There is little mention of coronavirus on the website of the Albanian Tourism Board, but the latest information and coronavirus travel restrictions can be verified from the website of the U.S Embassy in Albania.

Croatia

can americans travel to croatia now can americans travel to europe now coronavirus contries which united states tourists can visit now

Croatia is an epic country to visit and it’s one of the few nations in Europe which is open for Americans to travel to. The county officially opened on July the 1st and there is no requirement to quarantine when travelling to Croatia from the United States, but there is a requirement to have a coronavirus PCR test taken no more than 48 hours before arriving.

You will also need to fill out an online arrival form before you arrive in Croatia.

Read the official travel safety announcements and latest entry requirements from the Croatia tourism board.

Travel information can also be verified from the U.S. Embassy in Croatia.

Montenegro

Montenegro, a scenic country in Europe has reopened borders to international traffic in mid-August. This is another stunning country which Americans can visit right now.

There is, however, an overnight curfew in place from 9:00 pm until 5:00 am its required to stay indoors, at your accommodation unless you need to leave for essential reasons.

You’ll need to arrive with a negative coronavirus test in hand, and there is no requirement to quarantine on arrival. PRC test results can be used for 72 hours for Americans to enter Montenegro.

Serbia

Americans can now travel to Serbia, a landlocked country in Europe which borders Hungary, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Romania.

There are daily, direct flights, operated by Air Serbia from New York to Belgrade, (Serbia’s capital city).

There are no requirements for coronavirus testing, no requirements to have travel insurance, fill out an online health form or quarantine on arrival. It’s like Serbia hasn’t heard of the coronavirus.

It’s a country Americans can travel to with very relaxed entry requirements, but the lack of requirements would make me, at least, feel a little uneasy about visiting.

Turkey

which countries in europe can americans visit now can americans travel to europe now coronavisur can united states citizens visit turkey now

Turkey is open for travellers from the United States to visit now. It is one of the few European countries which has reopened borders to American tourists.

Quarantine is not required when travelling to Turkey from the United States and it is not needed to have a coronavirus test taken before travelling. PCR swab tests might be issued at the airport upon arrival to any passengers who show signs or symptoms or the coronavirus.

Coronavirus information and regulations from the United States Embassy in Turkey.

As was the situation before coronavirus, United States citizens will need to have a visa approved before travelling to Turkey, e-visa applications can be made online.

United Kingdom

The United Kingdom, or Britain in one of the few countries which never closed airports or borders throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Americans can travel to the UK, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. However there is a mandated two week quarantine order in place and the country is dipping in and out of reginal and nationwide lockdowns.

Where Can Americans Travel To In Asia

In East Asia, Korea has opened up their borders to American tourists, Pakistan in south-east Asia is also open, and Indonesia and Bali have opened to visa holders.

Can Americans Travel To Asia Right Now

For Americans, Asia and South East Asia is pretty much off limits as a tourist. There are not many countries in the continent which have opened to United States citizens, but there are a few options out there.

There has been a lot of speculation about when countries in south-east Asia will open their borders, and its a topic that I’m closely watching. Although at the moment, not a single country has budged, and for the most part, borders are firmly sealed.

It’s a waiting game, for Asian countries to open their borders to tourists from the United States, and the rest of the world for that matter. But, at the moment, no official announcements have been given for any nations to open.

Can Americans Travel To Indonesia and Bali

Bali Indonesia Ubud Bali contries americans can travel to now where can united states citizens travel to in asia coronavirus

Bali’s governor made a bold announcement earlier on in the year, claiming that the island would reopen to international and American tourists in September, but the plans were later overruled from officials in Jakarta.

So, Indonesia and Bali are closed.

But what that actually means is Indonesia is no longer offering visa-free entry. It doesn’t mean that you cannot travel to Indonesia.

The only port open to foreigners arriving in Indonesia is Jakarta CGK International Airport. And Americans can travel to Indonesia from overseas, providing they have a Social Visit visa, which has been issued in advance.

There is no quarantine requirement for United States Citizens traveling to Indonesia, but you will need to have a coronavirus PCR test taken before you arrive, which must be taken less than 7 days before arriving.

Some people won’t be convinced that Indonesia is open. But I can say with absolute confidence that it is. Mainly because I have travelled, myself to Indonesia and Bali from overseas, during the pandemic.

I’ve also documented the full process of travelling to Indonesia during the pandemic. You can read my story here.

Thailand has opened its borders to tourists arriving from the United States, but honestly, for most tourists- it isn’t worth it. Travelling to Thailand is a headache and expensive process.

Where Can Americans Travel To In Africa

Africa is often overlooked as when it comes to choosing a vacation destination. But the continent is one of the most unique places on earth. Sure it’s might be a little different from your typical beach getaway. But if you’ve ever wanted to see the great pyramids in Egypt, or wanted to go on safari in Kenya. Then now is your chance. Because countries in Africa have started to reopen their borders and Americans can now travel to over 10 beautiful nations in this continent.

Egypt

pyramids egypt can americans travel to egypt where can americans travel now where is africa can americans visit covid

Americans are able to travel to Egypt now, although as was the case before coronavirus. A visa is needed to enter. Applications can be made online for an Egyptian e-visa.

Travel insurance is a mandatory requirement for Americans to travel to Egypt now, and you’ll need a negative coronavirus PCR test, taken less than 72 hours before arriving.

Kenya

kenya wildlife where can americans travel now which contries are open to americans now coronavirus contries in africa open to americas

Ever wanted to go on safari with the African wildlife, with so few countries where Americans can travel to now, Kenya is a lucrative choice.

Giraffes, Elephants, Flamingos, Lions, Cheetahs, Zebras. Kenya has it all. And the country is open for travel for United States citizens, with some very relaxed coronavirus entry restrictions.

If you’re wanting to travel to Kenya for a vacation the only requirement is that you’ll need to have a coronavirus PCR test taken before you travel, as is the case with most countries that have reopened their borders to Americans.

Kenya is accepting PCR tests taken less than 96 hours before arriving.

You should also be aware that a curfew is still in place within Kenya from the hours of 10:00 pm until 4:00 am. The curfew will remain in place until January 3rd at the earliest. It’s not clear how the curfew effects night safari exertions and overnight, outdoor stays.

Read the latest information on Kenya’s travel requirements for Americans.

Morocco

Morocco is a costal country with rich cultures in northern Africa. And just a stones-throw from Europe. While Americans can travel to Morocco right now, there is still a curfew in place from 9:00 pm until 6:00 am- so maybe not the best place to visit on a vacation from the states.

Ferries are still operating to Sète, France and Genoa, Italy, but Americans aren’t allowed to travel to Europe using this method. International airports are open and operational.

The entry requirements to Morocco are pretty straight forward, there is no quarantine mandate. Just have a PCR test taken for coronavirus less than 72 hours before arriving, children under 11 years are exempt.

Rwanda

gorilla in rwanda can americans travel to africa is rwanda open to united states tourists which contries can americans travel to now

Rwanda is open to travellers from the United States, so now could be the perfect time to take that safari adventure.

Rwanda re-opened borders to Americans and all other nationalities mid-June, with the international flight ban lifted on the 1st August.

You will need to quarantine in Rwanda, (kind of). But for a maximum of 24 hours. You’ll need to arrive with a negative coronavirus test taken less than 120 hours before arriving. And once you arrive, you’ll have a second test conducted at the airport.

You’ll be requirened to qurentine until the second test result is retuner negative, after that you’ll be free to enter Rwanda. The test results will be returned within less than 24 hours.

The second PCR test and 24 hours quarantine will be paid for at the travellers expense.

To me, this is the most logical approach to reopening a country to international travel. And it’s a strategy that I hope more nations will adopt in the future. It’s a simple method for protecting and preventing imported coronavirus cases. A small inconvenience, but much more feasible than a full 14-day quarantine, giving peace of mind to both travellers and nationals allowing overseas guests to enter.

Travellers can book, and pay for their second test and quarantine online before they arrive. The cost has recently been dropped from $100USD to just $50USD.

Read Rwanda Tourism Boards Frequently Asked Questions for entering during the coronavirus.

Read COVID-19 Travel information from the U.S Embassy in Rwanda.

Tanzania

Have you always wanted to climb Mount Kilimanjaro? Then you’re in luck, Tanzania is open and Americans can travel to this stunning African nation.

There are very loose restrictions to enter Tanzania, no quarantine or coronavirus test is needed but health screening will be carried out upon arrival, which in some cases could include a coronavirus rapid test.

Zambia

Americans can travel to Zambia now.

There are no direct flights from the United States, however, Americans can transit through Istanbul.

Coronavirus restrictions are very relaxed in Zambia, you will need to have a negative coronavirus PCR test, but the test can be taken up to two weeks before arriving. Eh, better than nothing, I guess.

Americans also need a visa to travel to Zambia, which can be applied for online.

Read the official government issued coronavirus measures and guidelines for Americans travelling to Zambia, (download here).

Read the COVID-19 Entry requirements from the U.S Embassy in Zambia.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe official re-opened borders to Americans on October 1st, and all business and attractions have been given the green light to reopen. Including the country’s most well-known attraction, Victory Falls.

You’ll need to have a negative coronavirus PCR test taken within 48 hours of arriving to Zimbabwe. Read the latest travel guidance from the US Embassy in Zimbabwe.

Where Can Americans Travel Right Now Without Travel Restrictions

There are over 30 countries which Americans can travel to now. Most countries open for travel for United States citizens are in the Caribbean and South America. However there are a few nations in Asia and Europe, and more countries are announcing border openings on a regular basis.

Should Americans Be Traveling Right Now

Yes. You can’t stay at home forever. Now is the time to get back out there. As long as you feel safe and comfortable to travel, then f*** what anyone else thinks. And know that there are countries wanting tourist to come back and visit, and there are countless others, who are travelling still or again, who will support you.

Hi I’m Robb. But you can call me Backpack Bob. Welcome to my site. I started this travel blog in March 2020. Literally the worst time to be travelling. Haha. But the pandemic didn’t stop me. I managed to visit 5 countries during lockdowns, (sorry, not sorry), and I kept on writing. I’ve done a lot in my 27 years on this earth. My life has been a crazy ride. People often tell me I should write a book about it. I’m banned from two countries. I’ve worked in four continents. I started my own business in Thailand at 21. And I left on my first international solo adventure at 19, with less than $100. I’ll share the reality about travel and living overseas, without the drama. The highs, the lows and why and travel is so import, incredible and unique in a world after the coronavirus. I hope that I can inspire others to travel with an open mind and live your life to its full potential. Peace and Love. ✌️
